Barbara graduated with distinction from the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary and brings 25 years of glass experience to the new Fireweed collective. Barbara is inspired by the textures of the landscape and floral studies. Each piece is enhanced through the combined use of thinly layered colours and thick clear glass, focusing on the optical capabilities of the medium. This layering creates a textural depth which is a defining characteristic of Barbara's distinctive style.
Deanna McGillivray graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 2007. Working with both blown and casted glass, her art practice has been formed around naturally occurring textures, colors and patterns.
Using layering techniques Deanna explores the unique optical quality that glass offers. The fascination of this versatile material has captured her passion and she thrilled to share techniques and processes with her audience.
Deanna spends her days working between her home studio in Calgary and Fireweed Glass Studio in Canmore AB. She showcases her work though Alberta and British Colombia as well as online.
'Tis a privilege to live in Banff in this spectacular National Park. This natural environment of the Canadian Rockies provides me with creative inspiration. I’m currently glass blowing, though always dipping into other mediums.
I’m one of four partners in Fireweed Glass Studio, we are a busy working studio & gallery. Visitors are encouraged to drop in, take a peek at our studio, to pique your glass appreciation.
